Privacy Policy
How Lark Alert handles the information you and your sensors send us.
Lark Alert provides temperature monitoring for commercial coolers and freezers. Wireless sensors measure the temperature inside your units, send those readings to our cloud service, and our iOS app alerts you when a reading is out of the range you set or when a sensor stops reporting.
This policy explains what information we collect to make that work, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how to reach us with questions. It applies to the Lark Alert iOS app, our cloud service, and this website.
Information we collect
Account information
When you or your organization sets up Lark Alert, we collect the information needed to create and support your account:
- Name and business or organization name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Sign-in credentials for the Lark Alert app
- The locations, sites, or unit names you assign to your equipment
- Support correspondence you send us, such as emails and voicemails
Sensor and temperature data
Your monitoring hardware reports operational data to our cloud service. This data describes equipment, not people:
- Temperature readings and the time each reading was taken
- Sensor and device identifiers
- Device status information such as whether a sensor is reporting, and connection or power status reported by the device
- The temperature ranges and alert settings you configure for each unit
Notification and device information
To deliver alerts to your iPhone, we store the push notification token that Apple issues for your installation of the Lark Alert app, along with your notification preferences. We may also collect basic technical information such as app version and operating system version.
Diagnostic information
We may collect app and service logs — for example, error reports and records of requests to our service — to keep Lark Alert working and to diagnose problems.
We do not ask for, and do not need, payment card numbers, government identifiers, health information, or contact lists in order to provide monitoring.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Create and maintain your account and authenticate sign-ins
- Record temperature readings from your sensors and compare them against the ranges you set
- Detect out-of-range temperatures and sensors that have stopped reporting
- Send you alerts and notifications, including push notifications to iOS
- Show you current and past readings for your units in the app
- Respond to your support requests
- Keep the service secure, reliable, and working as intended
- Meet legal obligations that apply to us
Alerts and notifications
Alerts are the core of the product. When a reading falls outside a range you configured, or when a sensor stops checking in, we use your account’s notification settings and push token to notify you.
You can change or turn off notifications in the Lark Alert app, and you can turn off notification permission for the app in your iOS settings. If you turn off notifications, Lark Alert cannot alert you to out-of-range temperatures or offline devices.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
We share information only in these circumstances:
- Service providers. We use vendors to host our cloud service, deliver notifications and email, and monitor our systems. Apple’s push notification service delivers alerts to iOS devices. These providers may process your information only to provide services to us.
- Within your organization. If your account belongs to a business, the people your business authorizes can see the account’s units, readings, and alerts.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Lark Alert, our customers, or others.
- Business transfers. If Lark Alert is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction.
How long we keep information
- Account information is kept while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward for business and legal records.
- Temperature readings and device status history are kept so you can review the recent history of your units, and are removed on a rolling basis or when you close your account.
- Support correspondence is kept as long as needed to resolve the issue and maintain a record of it.
- Diagnostic logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted or aggregated.
If you close your account, we delete or de-identify the information associated with it, except where we are required to keep it.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect information in transit and at rest, and we limit access to the people who need it to operate and support the service. No system is completely secure, but protecting the data behind your alerts is a core part of running this service.
Your choices and requests
You can:
- Review and update your account information in the Lark Alert app
- Change or disable notification settings in the app or in iOS settings
- Ask us for a copy of the personal information associated with your account
- Ask us to correct or delete your account information
To make a request, email support@larkalert.com from the address associated with your account, or call us. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Children
Lark Alert is a tool for businesses. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or by email to account contacts.
